Founded in 2005 by Al Gore and Joel Hyatt, Current TV strives to democratize television by creating programming together with its audience. Current's programming covers issues relevant to a global young adult (18-35) audience, including news, culture, politics, trends and technology. Current can be found on cable and on its social news site, current.com.
Current TV's groundbreaking production model for "Viewer Created Content," or "VC2" for short, allowed young emerging filmmakers to produce documentary shorts for web and television broadcast. Anyone could upload a video to current.com for consideration, and we would select and polish the best for air. Meanwhile, we would also commission the best filmmakers to produce original segments that we had researched and developed. While I ushered dozens of shorts to air, I focused on commissioning stories related to sex, love, and dating, and how they are evolving thanks to technology and the internet.

The Soloist campaign
In partnership with Paramount Pictures, Current TV's Viewer Created Content department also produced a series of short documentaries to promote the release of The Soloist. Our viewer-creators profiled local musicians in cities across the US and to create fresh, authentic segments about the real musicians that inspired the film. I produced these four segments with filmmakers in Seattle, Nashville, and Austin.
